Laurel, Congrats on the new house and good luck with all of the improvements, inside and out! I just moved into a house with a landscape long neglected...I feel your pain! The good news is that a little care makes a huge difference and the gardener just moved in! :-)

You have lots of great ideas! I only have a few potted plants and have used the bath tub method for them. We do have a drip system for the garden beds, so I like the idea of putting pots in the empty spaces!

I transplanted some hastas this year and some aren't doing so well. They're impossible to kill, unless you're me. I've been watering the plants in the full sun twice daily, but they're struggling. The plants in partial sun have taken well.

I love funky garden art. My kids would be begging me to take home your new acquisitions, so you're not the only one! Even for the thrifty, garden art can give so many years of enjoyment...so why not splurge occasionally.

I hope all your plants will survive the accident! I also like to visit nurseries while traveling. Last time, I brought home a birdhouse. We used to live in Kansas City. How right you are about fences (or no fences) in Kansas! Happy gardening to you and thanks for the interesting post!

Those bird boxes look like they might be martin boxes. Martins can eat 2,000 mosquitoes a day -- each -- and are much to be desired!

I know it's possible for people to taste and smell things differently, but this is the first time I've ever run into it with flowers. I wonder if a perfume made from the plant would smell like skunk to me, too?
