Tumbleweeds and dollar signs

I put off doing a lot of things in my yard, but getting rid of tumbleweeds isn't one of them. They drop seeds as they tumble, so getting rid of them as soon as they roll into the yard is the best way to prevent growing them in the yard.

CNN has a piece about "terrifying tumbleweeds" on line today, telling about the weeds piling up to the tops of fences and roofs. That was starting to happen at my dad's place until we loaded them up and hauled them to the landfill last fall.

When I reached the end of CNN's article, I realized how foolish we'd been to pay to dump tumbleweeds. A woman in Garden City, Kansas, is selling hers! Prairie Tumbleweed Farm's website promises, "We can ship as many as needed." It's a serious business: It sells tumbleweeds for movie sets, events with western themes, and other creative uses. The owner grabs them as they roll by the house, boxes them up, and charges $25 for the big ones and $15 for the small ones.

I think I've found a way to monetize my garden blog. I'll sell tumbleweeds to my readers!

Oh, wait. You all have your own tumbleweeds already.

I'm new to your blog and so exited to have found you while looking for information on gardening in our wacky climate! Had to comment, the selling tumbleweeds is ingenious- too bad we don't have a market for them- I have plenty to share!

Thank you for reading and commenting! If nothing else, maybe you will learn what not to do here. I'm obviously still learning.
