Things that pop up in our yard like, uh, mushrooms
Yes, these are mushrooms. Specifically, they are Coprinus, or inky cap, mushrooms. You can see the reason for the name in the black area around the bottom of the cap on the one on the left. They turn black as they "autodigest" to release their spores. Autodigesting in real life looks like melting. You can't see it very well, but the one on the right in the background is in an advanced stage of autodigesting.

I think the mushrooms are interesting, but let's see something pretty. Here are some flowers that pop up in my garden every fall.

These are autumn crocuses, or Colchicum autumnale. They look like large crocuses, but they aren't really crocuses. My mother-in-law gave me corms for these many years ago. The leaves come up in the spring and disappear. After you've forgotten the plants are there, the flowers pop up for a few days at this time of year. Kind of like mushrooms, but better.
